Reflexive pronoun কাকে বলে?

বাক্যের subject এবং object যখন একই হয়, তখন subject কে উল্লেখ করার জন্য যেসব pronoun ব্যবহৃত হয়ে থাকে সেগুলোকেই reflexive pronoun বলা হয়। এরা object কিংবা indirect object উভয় হিসেবে বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।  

Reflexive pronoun এর শেষে -self বা -selves যুক্ত থাকে।  

Example:

• He prepared the dinner by himself.
• She cut herself when she was making dinner.
• The cat hurt itself. 

ইংরেজি ভাষায়  reflexive pronoun ব্যবহৃত হয় ৯ টি

• Myself, Yourself, Himself, Herself, Oneself, Itself 
• Ourselves, Yourselves, Themselves 

Reflexive pronoun এর ব্যবহার

When the subject and the object of a verb are the same within a sentence. ( বাক্যস্থিত verb এর subject, object একই হলে )

• I hope she enjoyed herself at the picnic.

To add emphasis (গুরুত্বারোপ করার ক্ষেত্রে) 

When it's unusual or different (ভিন্ন বা আলাদা কোন কিছু উল্লেখ করতে)

• I want to pass my driving test so that I can drive myself to work.

 To emphasize that someone does it by themself, (কোন কাজ কেউ নিজে করেছে বোঝাতে সেটা বোঝানোর জন্য)

• He is painting his room
• She locked the door herself.

together with the noun to emphasize it. (noun এর সাথে reflexive pronoun যুক্ত করে অধিকতর গুরুত্বারোপ করতে)

• We ourselves need to be more responsible for our behavior. 

By + reflexive pronoun (alone বা একা বোঝাতে)

• She usually travels by herself. 

Reflexive pronoun ব্যবহারে কিছু common mistakes

যখন verb এর subject নিজের ব্যাপারে বা জন্য কিছু করে না, সেক্ষেত্রে reflexive pronoun ব্যবহার করা যায় না।

• She did it to ❌
• She did it to herself. ✅
• I did it to myself. ✅

বাক্যে একাধিক object থাকলে, -self ব্যবহারে সতর্ক না হওয়া। 

• He insulted sam and myself. ❌
• He insulted sam and me. ✅

Note: [ এসব ক্ষেত্রে প্রথম object কে বাদ দিয়ে চিন্তা করে দেখা হলেই ঠিক কোনটি তা বোঝা যায়, কোনটি অর্থবহ হচ্ছে, আর কোনটি হচ্ছে না। ]

• He insulted sam; ✅
• He insulted ❌
• He insulted me. ✅

Hisself/ hiself নামে কোন reflexive pronoun নেই, আছে Himself

• He took the risk hisself/hiself. ❌
• He took the risk himself. ✅
