Proper Noun কাকে বলে?

কোন কিছুর নাম বোঝাতে যে noun বা বিশেষ্য পদের ব্যবহার করা হয়, সেই বিশেষ্য পদকে proper noun বা নামবাচক বিশেষ্য পদ বলা হয়। ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, স্থান, দিন, মাস, ঋতু ইত্যাদি বোঝাতে নামবাচক বিশেষ্য পদের ব্যবহার হয়ে থাকে। 

Example: Rahim, Nitu, Dhaka, War and peace, Dominos, Subway, Amazon, Mercedes, Ford,  Facebook, Titanic, Sunday, December, Summer, Bangladesh, etc. 

Proper Noun ব্যবহারের Rule

Capital Letters

• নামবাচক বিশেষ্য পদের প্রথম অক্ষর Capital Letter এ লিখতে হয়।
  • I live in Bangladesh.
  • He works for Walton.
  • We saw Avengers in Star Cineplex.
  • The first day of December was Wednesday. 

"THE"

 - মানুষের নামের ক্ষেত্রে ‘The’ বসে না

• Bill Gates
• Steve Jobs
• Elon Musk 

 - কোন প্রতিষ্ঠানের নাম, কোন ব্যক্তির নামে হলে, সেক্ষেত্রে ‘The’ বসে না

• Joe’s cafe
• St Peter's Cathedral 

 - কোন স্থানের নামে ‘The’ হয় না

• Dhanmondi
• Chattogram
• Bangladesh
• Asia
• Kathmandu

  - তবে কোন দেশের নামের সাথে States, Kingdom, Republic থাকলে, সেক্ষেত্রে The বসবে

• The United States of America
• The United Kingdom
• The French Republic

  - কোন নামের সাথে কোন পদবী বা সম্বোধন সহকারে (President/Doctor/Mr etc, + Name) বলা হলে, The হয় না

• President Obama
• Detective Bomkesh Bakshi
• Professor Shanku
• Hasan

  - তবে নাম ব্যতীত, শুধুমাত্র পদবী উল্লেখ করে বলার ক্ষেত্রে ‘The’ বসবে

• He spoke to the doctor.
• Who was the president after President Bush?

  - Lake, Mountain এর ক্ষেত্রে নাম উল্লেখ করে বলা হলে ‘The’ বসে না

• Lake Kaptai
• Mount Everest

  - তবে, নাম উল্লেখ ব্যতীত শুধুমাত্র Lake, Mountain এর উল্লেখ করা হলে ‘The’ বসবে

• The Mountain
• We stayed beside Lake Kaptai. We had a fantastic view across the lake.

  - Roads, streets, squares, parks এর নামের ক্ষেত্রে ‘The’ হয় না

• Tajmahal road

  - গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কোন স্থাপনার নাম ২ শব্দের এবং প্রথম শব্দ কারো নাম হলে, ‘The’ বসে না

  - Canals, rivers, seas, oceans এর নামের সাথে ‘The’ বসে

• The Suez Canal
• The Nile
• The Mediterranean Sea
• The Pacific Ocean

  - ব্যাক্তি বা স্থানের নাম plural হলে সেক্ষেত্রে ‘The’ হয়

• The Rahmans
• The Philippines
• The Virgin Islands
• The Alps
• Trinidad is the largest island in the West Indies.
• Mount Everest is in the Himalayas.

  - কোন নামের সাথে ‘Of’ থাকলে, ‘The’ বসে।

• The Tower of London

• The pyramid of Giza

  - তবে, বিশেষ ভবন, স্থাপনা, সংস্থা, সংবাদপত্র ইত্যাদির নামের সাথে ‘The’ বসে।
